We often think that selfishness is the same as arrogance. There is an opinion that no one likes egoists because of their worldview, so they are lonely. However, healthy selfishness helps to avoid loneliness and improve not only your life, but also those around you. Let’s figure out how it works.

What is healthy egoism

It is not customary in society to talk about selfishness as a positive concept. It is believed that a real egoist acts only in his own interests, obeys the voice of his reason and goes over the heads of others for the sake of his goals. However, in reality everything is different and selfishness is not a negative phenomenon, as it is mistakenly believed to be.

It can be regarded as a life position in which a person puts his preferences first. However, selfishness can be both healthy and unhealthy. Healthy presupposes self-love, acceptance of one’s needs, and respect for others. People with such a position in life do not interfere with others, know how to make compromises, are ready to help when required, but do not allow themselves to be pushed around. At the same time, they cannot feel happy if their loved ones feel bad. With unhealthy egoism everything is different. A person with such a worldview is capable of sacrificing other people for the sake of his goals, does not know how to give in, listen and hear others, and does everything solely for his own sake.

Who do you think is happier: the one who does everything only for himself or the one who tries for his loved ones…
