17. We continue to consider the myth of Cupid and Psyche. Last time we stopped at the moment where Psyche fulfilled the groom’s order to hide his true appearance from the curious sisters. The sisters moaned and begged the gods to give an answer to where their younger sister had gone. Psyche’s heart could not stand the sisters’ crying and begged permission to meet with them. After staying in the palace of Psyche’s groom, the sisters started talking on the way home. The first expressed her displeasure that she was left with an old husband, and also that she could not bathe in luxury and wealth like her younger sister. The second sister picked up on the displeasure and added that she had a sick husband who needed to be looked after like a slave or a nurse, and also that he was not as rich and influential as the younger sister’s fiancé. Both slandered and accused Psyche of pride, and decided to teach her a lesson at any cost. An evil conspiracy has taken place. They agreed not to tell where they were and that Psyche was alive. And when they returned home, they skillfully portrayed their grief, which upset their parents even more. Meanwhile, Psyche’s fiancé warned the girl over and over again to keep the dinner silent. And he also said, among other things, that now she has a great responsibility, since Psyche carried the fruit of their love under her heart. And he set a condition: if she lets slip to the sisters…
