Apathy is a condition that leads to a person losing interest in what is happening, becoming uninitiative and even passive. According to doctors, it may also indicate that he has been overwhelmed by too many events, emotions, obligations — everything that he cannot cope with. All this leads to the fact that the individual’s brain seems to turn off and stops responding to signals around. Let’s look at apathy in detail, find out why it is dangerous and how you can fight it.

What is apathy

Apathy is considered a disease included in the International Classification of Diseases with code R45.3. Like any other disease, it has causes and characteristic symptoms. So, the first warning sign is considered to be absolute indifference to everything. A person stops enjoying the little things that were once important to him. All this leads to a worsening of the condition, because a person, being alone for a long time, overwhelms himself with negative thoughts, he gives up, loses interest in what is happening and the desire to take initiative.

Apathy can also act as a defensive reaction to events around. If it is not typical for a person and he copes with it in a couple of days, then there is no reason to worry. But if the feeling of indifference increases every day, the individual becomes lethargic, his appetite deteriorates, and emotions disappear, then all this is fraught…
