Fear of competition

Competition in itself is not something that necessarily needs to be eliminated. After all, our needs often intersect with the interests of other people. This is fine. And yes, we find ourselves in situations where we need to declare ourselves, defend ourselves.

We can all be scared and even ashamed to talk about ourselves. This is due to many reasons — upbringing, family messages like “keep your head down,” traumatic experiences of being ridiculed or shamed when you showed yourself.

However, there is also pleasure in the desire to somehow express yourself, to try your hand with others. It is a pleasure to be recognized by people around you and to find your place next to others.

But if you avoid any confrontation, and the need to fight with someone for a place in the sun literally paralyzes you, then this already becomes a problem. In this case, fear of competition will prevent you from developing, receiving recognition and realizing your goals and dreams.

What is the basis of fear of competition?

As a rule, such people tend to anticipate a negative scenario for the development of the situation. They expect rejection and ridicule. They are afraid of negative assessments from others. There is simply not enough internal self-reliance yet and there is a strong need for external support.
