Eat to the end!
Agree, many of us can remember this phrase from our childhood. Our parents’ childhood did not pass at a time when food was abundant. And their parents — our grandparents — knew firsthand what hunger was. So the attitude towards food as the main value was passed on to them. And if we ask each other about how exactly our parents motivated us to finish eating everything, then you and I can remember the various theories they voiced in order for us to leave the plates clean. So, let’s remember them: 1) if you don’t finish, you will be weak; 2) if you don’t finish, you’ll offend mom and dad; 3) if you don’t finish it, you’ll be ugly and girls/boys won’t like you; 4) good children always finish everything. This is a small list. Everyone motivated as best they could! Oh, yes… Also this: dishes love cleanliness.
Of course, no one wanted to be ugly, bad and weak. And everything was completed to the end. The results, as you understand, are eating disorders, namely overeating. How many times have I personally seen how adults, having already eaten their fill, continued to stuff themselves with the last pieces from their plate. This is especially noticeable at resorts where there is a buffet. But many of these people already have a career and money, but they continue to eat up the latter so as not to “be weak and ugly.” Well, remember this phrase: a real man should eat well and a lot! So the man sits, proving that he is real, and meanwhile his overfilled stomach puts pressure on neighboring organs.
