The main character of the film, Nina, lives with an authoritarian and lonely mother, who does not let her go, physically and psychologically.

Nina is all her mother has.

A good, obedient girl, the right daughter for her mother.

Children of such parents have no choice about who to be. Despotic, domineering Mothers suppress all the vital energy of their children, not giving any opportunity to manifest themselves.

A room with plush bunnies, figurines and music boxes, breakfast in bed, calls several times a day from her mother — all this is the reality in which Nina lives.

She is like an infantile continuation and embodiment of her mother, who was also a ballerina in the past.

Ballet is her only hobby, she trains hard and hard, tries hard, and this is what she does best. All her energy is focused on training.

One day, a choreographer offered Nina the main role in Swan Lake, as he saw great potential in her. Nina can handle the role of the White Swan perfectly well, but I couldn’t handle the role of the Black Swan, as a strong “mother’s prohibition” on expressing herself, suppressing and repressing her living life energy interfered.
